As’salaamu alaykum;
I have received several questions regarding the nature of this program and so I wished to clarify a few points regarding it.
This program is being held with permission from a local dawah program which has been occurring for many years. It will not have a set of lectures or specific topics rather there will be a few personal stories and advices from those who have chosen to accept Islam. It is meant to be a light evening where new brothers and sisters can meet with other Muslims in the community. The primary audience and area of focus is the Muslim community in and around Masjid al-Noor though those people attending from outside the community are more than welcome in the hopes that they support this awareness program and take part in it when it comes to their area, God willing. The hope is to have this program at various centres throughout the city in order to create a bond between new Muslims and old ones and address the needs and issues faced by new Muslims.
We will also be introducing an initiative for new Muslims, an awareness/support group and some ideas and future plans.
Masjid al-Noor is one of the oldest masjids in Toronto and serves a diverse Muslim community in Toronto’s west end. Through the efforts of a small group of brothers the sisters area has been newly renovated to create a comfortable and inviting area for sisters. A new library will also be setup both in the brothers and sisters areas focusing on English literature.
We will be serving some light food and snacks as well. Alzahra Booksellers will have a small stall setup in both the brothers and sisters areas, God willing, selling various items.
To summarize, tomorrows program will be a light evening the goal of which is to have those who have accepted Islam in the community meet with other Muslims in the hopes of creating an environment of love and unity. This program will be done in conjunction with a program in the masjid which has been going on for many years.
This is hopefully the first of many programs so please bear with us as we work out the kinks. There will be feedback forms and email sign-up sheets to fill out so please do so. We will use this feedback in any other future events.
